Bancroft Area Forest Industry Association (B.A.F.I.A.) Delivers Forestry Day event – on May 25, 2023 an educational field tour event was held for Grade 7 and 8 students
in the Bancroft and surrounding area. The purpose was to provide hands on, practical skills to students while showing them the possibilities of different careers within the sector. Funding through the Local Initiatives Program provided by CFDC allowed the event to take place at Joy Bible Camp. This locaation was selected due to the wonderful trail system surrounded by trees allowing the event leaders to speak to a number of aspects. The camp also allowed the group to utilize an additional gym space to host display tables of different forest practitioners and wood product users. Students were also able to use see a portable sawmill, forestry equipment and MNRF fire crews and take part in hands on activities within the onsite field. 183 students attended the event.
