CFDC was able to provide funding that allowed the Tweed & Company Theatre to expand their accessibility measures by enabling Deaf patrons to attend the theatre production of Dear Rita.
The production resulted in increased tourism and positive feedback from patrons notably those with hearing impairments. The theatre group was able to provide employment for Deaf artist, Cassie-Hope Aubin, fostering inclusivity in both the Tweed and Bancroft venues as well as in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where they toured the production following the Bancroft run, helping to spread the word about the work being done in Hastings County. This was the first experience for many of the other cast members and directors which had a very positive impact on them and what their ideas of what ASL interpretation could entail.
Bravo! Tweed & Company Theatre.
